I popped into my neighbourhood veterinary clinic today to buy more of the special diet food for the cats. It is a very convenient stop on my way home.
My cousin and his family visited yesterday but I completely forgot to take photographs! His little girls are charming and adorable. They busied themselves with playing with my cats and practice-writing and drawing on scraps of paper while the grown-ups chatted.
Today Dorothy, Vanessa, Michele and I took a drive up to the West Coast National Park to look at the spring flowers, and have lunch in Langebaan. We were so lucky with the weather... it was a perfect day.
I went a bit crazy at the plant nursery today. The next phase of the garden revamp is replanting the pots. I decided on succulents (and a couple of herbs) as the spot where the pots go is very hot and sunny, and windy. Succulents are so cute... I ended up buying lots.
I bought this dress a few days ago. Not sure yet if I'm going to keep it. It is a very long (a maxi-dress I guess) and it is very bright and very floral.
I'm giving this Viral Guard stuff a try on the advice of my pharmacist. For about the third or fourth time in the last month I feel as if I'm fighting off illness. I haven't got sick, but I hate feeling like I'm about to all the time. I was so grumpy today I reckoned it was time to get some help. I'm hoping rest, plenty of water and this tonic will get me back to full health.
When I found out that Crowded House are going to be playing in Cape Town later this year I bought tickets immediately. Can't wait! I've loved their music from the 80s til the present. Best. Band. Ever.
My packed lunch today was a bakkie of home-made butternut soup. Yum!
Iain has started the next phase of my garden revamp... all the pavers have been lifted and are going to be relaid on a proper foundation of bidum and sand. When the cats saw this they were all whee-hee, giant sandpit!!!
The "before" view. Like many people in Cape Town I watched the demolition of the Athlone cooling towers today (and, yes, I almost missed it when they came down early!) It was strange looking out onto the city afterwards and not seeing these familiar landmarks.
It was a cool and rainy day today and Trixie spent the entire morning on my lap, getting cuddles and head scratches. She was totally blissed out with all the love and attention.
I'm feeling despondent about the endless housework and laundry. Hate it.
I wore this old shirt today. It's soft and comfortable and I like the colours.
Went to watch Pedro Almodóvar's Broken Embraces this evening. Not his best film, but still enjoyable and Penelope Cruz is very watchable. Great poster too.
I read Barbara Kingsolver's new novel The Lacuna while I was on holiday... it is wonderful. I also loved AA Gill's collection of essays... several made me laugh out loud. Now I'm reading Rosie Thomas's new saga, Constance... nothing special. I will probably try the new one from Audrey Niffenegger next.
This little catnip-filled toy is Tom and Trixie's most favourite toy in the world. It's a wonder how it is still in one piece as it gets mauled, shaken, licked, clawed, bitten and flung about every day. It's not looking as cute as it once did though ;-)
I like Woolworths' new crumbed mackerel fillets. With salad on the side and a squeeze of lemon they make a really quick, easy and delicious meal.
Spring is in the air. It's exciting to see new flowers in my garden. This dietes is so lovely.
I came back from my holiday with this new bowl. It's a John Newdigate and I love it!
The scenery on the drive back to Cape Town today was simply spectacular.
John and Ian share a laugh!
From Priscilla's guest room, where I stayed while visiting Swellendam, my view was out to this potted kumquat tree and the lovely green garden beyond.
Miro belongs to Ian and John. She's my favourite cat after Tom and Trix... I'd cat-nap her in a heartbeat if I could. She's as sweet as she looks.
Little Nunu, posing with the succulent collection. She's such a teeny-tiny pooch!
When I visit my brother (long weekend in Swellendam) I always like to have a good poke around his pottery studio. Mmm, lots of beautiful new vessels.
This is the special cat food Tom's been eating for the last couple of months. Nom nom nom.
As I arrived home this evening there was a commotion down the road. A house was on fire! Smoke was billowing out the windows. My neighbour had helped out with a fire extinguisher, and the emergency services were on the scene a few minutes later. Fortunately no-one seemed to be hurt and there wasn't too much damage.
Hmm, is it terribly wrong to eat crunchy peanut butter straight out the jar?
I've got into the ridiculous and annoying habit of playing spider solitaire when I'm on hold on the phone, or waiting for the computer to do something. It's a bit like a nervous tic... before I know what I'm doing I open it up and start clicking, without any conscious decision to do so.
It was a gorgeous day today and it was so good to be out in the bright warm sunshine! Photo taken at Cape Point. [Guest photographer: Dorothy]
