Michele strolling along the rose bower at Fairholme in Elgin. I've done two open garden circuits this weekend and seen beautiful flowers in eight absolutely delightful gardens. It has been great fun, but I'm exhausted! And I now have hundreds of photographs to sort out. In a few days I'll put up more pics up on the other blog.
I was lucky enough to win some tickets for Kamersvol Geskenke this week (thanks Vicki!) Brenda and I went through to the exhibition this morning and spent hours browsing. So much to see... it was quite overwhelming! Did some shopping too, of course ;-)
When we did the garden a few months back Iain made three wooden platforms and attached them to the tree that was decapitated when the new wall was put up. I thought the tree was a goner after its ordeal but, as you see, it has actually sprouted again. Anyway, the platforms are for the cats. I thought Trixie would enjoy the top one, from which she can gaze over the wall, but she seems to prefer the middle spot. She's the queen... surveying her domain. Note to self: tie that viburnum on the right to its stake!
I banked a lot of money today. This is really unusual... these days I hardly ever handle much cash, let alone piles of grubby notes. For a minute I felt rich!
This kiddies' water pistol is my weapon of choice for stopping cat fights. I had to use it again in the middle of the night last night (1am!) as Tom was up to his bad-boy ways again. There was a lot of yowling but luckily no injuries. He is a naughty cat!
Saw my favourite band at the Grand Arena tonight. It was great!
Washing up, washing down. Washing up, washing down. Washing up, washing down.
Braai at Michele and family's today. For afters we had my red velvet cupcakes and Michele's carrot-cake, both with delicious cream-cheese icing. It was all good.
I joined the crowds and queued at Computicket for U2 concert tickets today. Success!
I spend a bit of time in my garden when I got home today, weeding, trimming and tidying the flowers beds. The cats love it when I potter around outside.
This is the cat's outside water bowl, which has a new place now amongst the pots.
For the last few days I've been watching The Flight of the Conchords. It's silly but very funny, and the perfect antidote to a stressful week.
Naartjies in the newest addition to my ceramic collection: this fish bowl. Love it!
Fortunately my commute is a short one. Even so, it's my least favourite part of the day.
Ooh! I was so happy to see C J Sansom's new one, Heartstone, in the bookstore yesterday I just had to buy it. I'm already quarter way through.
I've been craving mussels, so today headed to Olympia for my fix. Delicious!
Yikes, major aches and cramps for me today. Thank goodness for painkillers!
This mess (not as bad as it looks, really!) hides in the credenza, but the door was open today as we checked connections and reset switches in an attempt to get our our system going. No luck... a line problem. Down all day. Very frustrating.
I flick the TV on every morning to catch the headlines and weather. Today, like the rest of the world, I was enthralled by the news of the rescue of the trapped miners in Chile. Incredible story!
Every morning I look around my garden. It's exciting... I'm seeing so much new growth. Turns out one of the new agapanthus is blue (previously I only had white) and it is about to burst into flower. Pretty!
I've been listening to the new Crowded House CD. It's nice but hasn't become an instant favourite like their other albums. Perhaps it needs some more listens?
The weather turned all cold and rainy today, so after a big Sunday lunch with friends I went back to bed for the afternoon. With my book. And a kitty. It's lovely to be lazy ;-)
Today I visited Aafke, pictured here with Claudia. Spent the afternoon under the beautiful big oak trees in her garden where her friends and family came together to celebrate her 40th. Happy birthday, my friend!
Sniffy nose, itchy eyes, scratchy throat... seasonal hayfever is here again. So this week I started on the dreaded nasal spray again. Hmm, don't know what's worse.
Dark chocolate tart from Cookshop. There were leftovers after book club last night, so I had a slice with tea this afternoon. Ridiculously rich!
My silver necklace, one of half a dozen pieces of jewellery that I wear regularly.
Isn't it great when writers you love brings out new books?
I find birds very hard to photograph and I usually don't even try. When I was going through my photos from the weekend however I found this random lucky shot, taken in Kirstenbosch. I'm really rather pleased with it! I may have to take more birdie photos from now on.
Michele and I went whizzing along the N1 today for a day trip to the Karoo Desert Botanical Garden in Worcester. It was a fun and relaxing day out, but tiring... I did the driving. [Guest photographer: Michele]
It was slow to start but spring is in full swing now. It's the very best time of year!
Even though it is now 15 years old (!!!) this is still my favourite CD to put on after a long hard work week. Crank up the volume and dance!
