Ooof, it was hot on Sunday! We stayed inside most of the day, except for early morning and early evening. But because of the awful heat, I missed the Navy Festival, which is always such a highlight of the year!
That must have been disappointing for you. I too stayed in, only sensible choice. I think the storm just made it worse... hot AND humid. But apparently it will start cooling later this week, not a moment too soon...
It *was* disappointing. Terribly. The storm last night was awe-inspiring, though, wasn't it? There was lightning and thunder, and then a torrential downpour that lasted only about 10 minutes or so. I could feel my garden just drinking it all in.
And then this morning I heard about the fires in the mountains behind Porterville - where we'd spent a long weekend at the end of February. I phoned the lady at whose farm we stayed, Pampoen Fontein, and she said that one of the fires was actually on their farm! Right next to the little wooden cottage where we had stayed! Apparently the fires had all been started by lightning strikes.
So that was a real shock. Here, in our safe home, we'd been enjoying the thrill of the thunderstorm - and there, two-three hours away on an exposed mountain top farm, the same thunderstorm had started three veld fires that could very well burn down their farm.
One photo posted every day. A snapshot from my life. People I know, places I visit. The mundane details of my day-to-day. Things I do, see, watch, read and taste. A record of my small, quiet, everyday life.
