Dorothy and I did a bit of driving around District Six today. I had no idea that the building site that I go past every week day is so vast. It's going to be interesting to watch the development in this area over the next few years.

Every day, twice a day, the garbage truck comes past and empties bins and collects recycling from our building. It idles, right outside my window, for about ten minutes. Not my favourite thing in the world.

There is a new stop street in my neighbourhood. The traffic roars down the road in the morning... hopefully this will help to slow it down.

This morning there was an almighty racket outside and the whole neighbourhood came out to see what had happened. A car had crashed right through someone's wall! Luckily the driver was unhurt, but - eeek! - poor car, poor wall.

There is a new kittie in the block and there are some complicated cat politics going on between my two and this one. It is shy but I think it would like to be friends. Tom might be amenable but Trixie is having none of it.

A few days ago I saw this lost dog notice on an internet message board. Yesterday, quite by chance, I saw a "found dog" notice on a Facebook page and made the connection. I contacted the owner and heard today that it was the right dog. She is well (despite over a week alone on the mountain and travelling all the way from Constantia Neck to the city bowl) and very happy to be home. It's so nice to have been able to help, and hooray for the internet!

One of my neighbours was accosted in the street late last night, resulting an a bit of a neighbourhood disturbance. One gets a big fright when crime starts happening almost literally on one's door step. It prompted me to get my burglar alarm checked and restore the security company signage on my wall. Not sure it's much of a deterrent, but it can't hurt.
