Today I had some prints done from a recent get-together and passed them on to my friends. We will remember our friend Vanessa (who passed away so suddenly last week after a short illness). V, we can hardly believe you're gone and will miss you terribly.

One of my neighbours was accosted in the street late last night, resulting an a bit of a neighbourhood disturbance. One gets a big fright when crime starts happening almost literally on one's door step. It prompted me to get my burglar alarm checked and restore the security company signage on my wall. Not sure it's much of a deterrent, but it can't hurt.
A homeless man who spent a lot of time hanging around the building next door to mine passed away on the weekend. I've been thinking about him a lot and how very difficult it must be for those on the margins of society do get through winter. It was bitterly cold again today, and I am feeling so grateful for my cosy home, warm clothing and nourishing food. I'm so extremely fortunate... I get to turn up the heater when I'm feeling cold...

I only found out about the terrible earthquake in Japan on Sunday evening, and since then have been following the story in the media, particularly here. What a devastating tragedy it is for all those affected.
