Cape Town has had power outages all day. Fortunately I wasn't affected. But when I got home I plugged in my camping lantern to make sure it's fully charged and ready to go, just in case I need it later.

Winter Wonderland

Last night the cold snap we're experiencing this week intensified - it was freezing cold, the rain came down hard and there was even snow on the mountain. The local news sites had lots of pictures. I love reading about extreme weather!

This morning there was an almighty racket outside and the whole neighbourhood came out to see what had happened. A car had crashed right through someone's wall! Luckily the driver was unhurt, but - eeek! - poor car, poor wall.

Lost Dog Found

A few days ago I saw this lost dog notice on an internet message board. Yesterday, quite by chance, I saw a "found dog" notice on a Facebook page and made the connection. I contacted the owner and heard today that it was the right dog. She is well (despite over a week alone on the mountain and travelling all the way from Constantia Neck to the city bowl) and very happy to be home. It's so nice to have been able to help, and hooray for the internet!

I spent much of today obsessively refreshing twitter streams and other live updates on the bail application in the Reeva Steenkamp murder trial. All the speculation, misinformation and general media frenzy is totally repellent but I just cannot look away.

The ongoing truck drivers' strike has been a real challenge for us at work. This week we arranged a private truck to bring us stock. It was a huge beast and we got about four times as much stock as we usually get at one time. A very busy day indeed!
