Plastic Fantastic

Went to see the Design and Making exhibition at the Castle this afternoon... varied and interesting. I'm not entirely sure what this display of plastic containers was all about, but I found it visually appealing.

Went to see the isishweshwe exhibition at the Slave Lodge Museum this afternoon. I've always loved this fabric. Designers are doing wonderful things with it these days.

This afternoon I popped into the Michaelis School of Fine Art to see their annual graduate exhibition.

We made an impromptu visit to the National Gallery this afternoon. It was nice to see the Barbara Tyrell exhibition, but there wasn't much else going on. Afterwards we walked around the Company's Gardens, enjoying the winter sunshine.

For March's "Museum a Month" excursion we caught the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit at the SA Museum and also whizzed through this exhibition of old paintings of local rock art. I'd love this collection on my walls.

For February's "Museum a Month" outing a bunch of us went to the Castle and had a look at their permanent collection, their excellent ceramics exhibition (Fired) as well as this fun installation called "101 Place Settings".

Slave Lodge

In 2012 I'm doing "Museum a Month". January's outing, this afternoon, was to the Slave Lodge. We saw the permanent display and two interesting photo exhibitions.

I went to visit Ian at his exhibition again this morning, and this time I had a good look around the Irma Stern museum itself. Very interesting.

Statues in the City

This afternoon Dorothy and I went to look at the Wildlife Photos of the Year at the SA Museum, and then took a quick stroll through the Company Gardens. It was delightful to play tourist in my own town.

Rococo

I had a look around the recently-restored Casa Labia this afternoon.... beautiful furniture, carpets, chandeliers and artwork. Claudia, Dorothy and I also had lunch at the new cafe.

Lecture

Ian, Dorothy and John under the fever trees outside the SA Museum this afternoon. We went to listen to a talk about the potter Hyme Rabinowitz, part of the Iziko Summer School.

SA Museum

This afternoon my friends and I went down to the South African Museum to have a look at the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009 photographs. They are lovely, very inspiring!
